Geocache Description:

A grassland cache in an abandoned homestead in the middle of Pawnee Prairie Park.

A beautiful Sunday in mid October inspired this cache. At sunrise or sunset the area is especially pretty. Although you would never be fooled into thinking you weren't in Kansas, you might be pleased with the gold, yellow and red in the foilage. This area can also be quite peaceful and pretty in other seasons.

This cache is very near a row of maples. Since maples are not a native tree to this area and since there is also a large pine nearby, this appears to be an old abandoned homestead. But, it's not. I recently received an informative e-mail from the city that this is an old location for a city nursery and that the maples and pines are what was left behind. Nonetheless, it is a nice, if inadvertant, beautification of the Park.

The cache has been replaced with a black electric tape covered pill container. There are birdhouses nearby, but it is not in the birdhouses. The only challenge is the distance from access points. I came in from the southeast and I am guessing it is over a mile hike. My GPS said it was .62 miles from the parking as the arrow flies. There is a closer parking area to the southwest, but you miss out on the grassland hike which is part and parcel of the experience.
