Geocache Description:

This is one of eight caches (all of which are located in Eastern Purbeck) which make up the “Beautiful Dorset” series. Each cache can be logged individually, and therefore please do not feel that you have to complete all eight !

Caches can be completed in any order, although if you are planning to do several in one day, you may find it easier to work roughly from south to north.

Six of the caches contain codewords which, when decrypted, will reveal the co-ordinates of the final cache in the series.

This cache – “The Sandpit Field” - contains codewords I and J.

When you visit the cache, make a note of the codeword(s) written on the front of the log book. Then visit the page for the eighth cache – “Two Trees, Gloomy Water...” – to see how these fit into the final co-ordinates.

The Sandpit Field

Swanage is a seaside resort, which originally built up around the quarrying and fishing trades, but in Victorian times, it gained popularity as a seaside resort. In the winter, you can walk along the sea front with meeting a soul, but in the summer, it’s a different matter!

This cache is located on Swanage sea front, you can park anywhere in the town, or you can park very close by for a ‘cache and dash’ if you wish (and if you are lucky enough to find a parking place!). It has been placed in the Sandpit Field, so called as there was a small sandpit here in the 1800s, for the purpose of excavating sand from the Wealden Beds below.

If you don’t enjoy finding micros, you may want to give this one a miss, as it is a 35mm film canister! It is located in the Sandpit Field, about half-way along the Sea Front.

The micro has been placed in a partly hollow, horizontal branch, about 2ft from the ground. It is well covered with dead leaves and twigs – please make sure it is thoroughly sealed and covered before leaving it.

This should be fairly easy to find, but if you need a further clue, please see the photo clue.

Happy hunting!
