This cache is located in Ash Canyon.
Follow Ash Canyon Rd. (FR 59). The first kilometer is a graded dirt road; after that it becomes rough and rocky. High clearance or 4WD vehicles are recommended beyond this point. A 4WD vehicle can be driven to the cache site.
If you elect to hike in, the distance is 2.0 kilometers from the end of the graded dirt section of Ash Canyon Rd. Elevation change 138 meters.
Most of the gold found in Ash Canyon was the result of placer mining, the kind you find with a pan. Much of the creek was cleaned down to bedrock in the quest for gold. Bill King, a prospector, moved onto this claim in 1943 and lived here for more than 40 years. All that remains of his cabin is the stone foundation.
The Cache is an ammo box and is not hidden in the ruins.
