A very short walk on the Kilsyth hills with some great views
We drove up here recently on the way from one cache to another and were so impressed with the views that we thought we'd bring other cachers up here to see it too.
We tried to plan a decent walk to the trig point to the east of the car park, but the route took us on a wade across a boggy marsh and there were walls and fences to negotiate with no gates. We also tried to approach nearby Tomtain from the car park, but encountered more barbed wire at the Forestry boundary, so we ended up with a walk of less than a third of a mile to the cache.
There is a car park and view point at N56.00.396 W004.01.888.
On a clear day you can get panoramic views right across the central belt from the firth of Forth in the east to Goat Fell on Arran in the west. If it's very cloudy or raining you'll still find the cache, but will miss the views, which are the main reason for coming up here!
A few yards down the hill to the south from the car park there is a gate on the right hand side of the road. Go through this and it's a straight walk to the cache.
If you want somewhere else to go while you're here, the Colzium Lennox estate is not far away down the hill. It's a nice place to walk (dogs allowed everywhere except in the wee walled garden). If you drive northwards from the car park you'll come down into the Carron Valley looking out to the Wallace monument, with plenty of forest trails to walk (and quite a few other caches within easy reach!)
*NB - IT WAS FAIRLY DRY UNDERFOOT WHEN WE HID THIS CACHE, BUT SEVERAL CACHERS HAVE GOT WET FEET ON THE WALK FROM THE CAR PARK - GOOD BOOTS OR WELLIES ARE RECOMMENDED!!
