High Falls Park near Geraldine has been called a "Surprise of
Nature" and "The best kept secret in Alabama." This 38 acre park
has six hiking trails, a walking bridge that spans a gorge
overlooking beautiful Town Creek, a waterfall, a natural arch, a
picnic area, playground, and restrooms. High Falls was a popular
social and family spot in the early 1900's. In 1923, area residents
built a covered bridge spanning the gorge just above the waterfall;
it burned in the 1950's. In 1996, residents and local government
officials raised money and secured grants to build a pedestrian
walking bridge on the original rock columns. The hanging rope on
one side of the creek marks the spot where people were baptized
during earlier times. The water level varies based on the amount of
rainfall each week.
The park has only one entrance and access is controlled by a locked
gate which is open at 10:00am and closed at 6:00pm each evening
except in the winter months when it is closed at 4:00pm.
The ammo box hidden here was won by my team at the AGA 2nd
Birthday Bash in October. Please re-hide it exactly as you found it
and email me with any problems. Don't forget to CITO and take steps
to minimize the creation of a geo-trail wherever possible. Good
luck and enjoy!
Why did I place this cache here? I wanted to
draw attention to this "secret" area.
