Who: Anybody that caches in the NW
Ohio area, whether you are new, experienced, or just wanna
know more about
geocaching.
What: A monthly Meet & Eat at
Schlotzsky’s Deli
in Maumee, Ohio. Come alone, bring a friend, bring the
family, plan on dinner or just grab a coffee, it’s all
casual. Stay all night, stay an hour, stay 10 minutes, or
just open the door and say "Hi", it’s up to
you.
When: The
first Tuesday evening of each month at 7:00pm, ie. November 1st, December 6th,
January 3rd, February 7th, March 7th.
Where:
Schlotzsky’s Deli, 1419 S. Reynolds Rd., Maumee, Ohio, 419/893-9266
– the coordinates at the top of the page
Why: To allow
new cachers and experienced cachers to meet and mingle. Normally in
this hobby it’s a solo effort and you only read the names of fellow
cachers in the cache logs and online, but here you can meet those
whose caches you hunt and the cachers who find
them.
So...why Schlotzsky’s you ask ? Well, some
thought went into this and there are a few
reasons:
Schlotzsky’s in Maumee has free, that’s FREE,
wireless internet connections for computers as well as having 3
computers that are free for use right there at the restaurant. For
more info on the WiFi connection click here.
This means that you can bring your laptop along
with you and show everyone a caching or mapping program you like or
pictures from a caching expedition or the cache page for a great
cache that you think everyone will like. You can even bring a
caching and technology question with you and the computer gurus in
attendance will be able to offer advice. There are smart people in
our group that have info on caching and mapping programs as well as
websites and wireless internet.
Another reason is that they have darn good food.
Here is a link to their menu so you can find out
ahead of time what tempts your tastebuds.
Also here’s a link to some e-coupons for the
restaurant, print ‘em out and bring ‘em along.
The third reason is that it’s a relatively good
location. No one particular place will serve all cachers in NW Ohio
conveniently but this one is very close to the turnpike as well as
I-475. The restaurant is just north of the Meijer store in Maumee.
If you are on the turnpike you can exit at the Maumee exit and
follow your GPS from there. From I-475 it’s the Salisbury/Dussel
Road exit. Here’s a link to a
zoom in/zoom out map for this restaurant.
If there are any questions, post a note here on
the page and someone will happily answer it. Also, if anyone wishes
they can log Travel Bugs into this event cache and we can swap
'em.
ALSO: if you live in the southern
part of NW Ohio, you are welcome to attend our Findlay Area Meet
& Eat. It takes place every 3rd Thursday of the month at
7:00pm at the Panera Bread in Findlay. There is an event
cache page using Findlay zip code 45840.
