Geocache Description:

This tour consists of 3 very large waypoints (easy finds). Final is located in a Webster Groves park.

2,498 Lustron homes were sold between 1948-1950. They are unique because they are all prefab and made entirely out of porcelain enameled steel; no wood was used. Most were 2 bedroom but there were some 3 bedroom homes, but none in Webster Groves.

Webster Groves has the 2nd largest concentration in the nation with 21, behind Quantico marine base in Virginia, which has 66. Nearby cities in the St. Louis area (Brentwood, Kirkwood, Maplewood, etc) have several of these homes.

Since these homes can be dismantled and moved, one of the Webster Groves homes was recently sold on eBay for $4000.

For more details on these homes, see The Old House Web.

You shouldn't have any problems determing which house you're looking for since they are very unique from the other nearby houses.

***** May 27, 2008 *****
Appearently the house at WP1 has a large tree in front that is blocking the house number if driving by in a car. So to make this easier, just determine the color of the house and substitute the associated 3 digit number for the address. See the table below.

The coordinates above is the location of the first house in the tour. You don't need to do this in any order but if you do them in sequence, if will shorten the driving time. At each waypoint you will need to get the 3 digit house number and they are all visible from the street.

WP No. Coordinates Address
1 Coords from above If house is white, then 102
If house is yellow, then 304
If house is turquoise, then 208
(A,B,C)
2 N38° 34.987
W090° 21.327
(D,E,F)
3 N38° 35.076
W090° 20.718
(G,H,I)
. sum of addresses
(Addr1+Addr2+Addr3) =
1154

Now the 3 sets of 3 digit numbers added together should total 1154.

Assign the numeric values of the addresses to the associated letters. Then replace the letters below with the appropriate value to determine the final.

I.E. if the first address was 371, then A=3, B=7, and C=1.
If the North coords were N38 34.((A+C) B ((B+C),
then it would be N38 34.(3+1) 7 (7+1) or N38 34.478.

The final coords are N38 34.(C + F) G (A + D) & W90 20.(A + E) I (A + F).

Effective 6/28/24: It is now necessary to do a projection from the "solved" coordinates. Go 86 feet at a bearing of 262° to reach the new hiding place.

This will give you the coordinates of the actual cache container, an easy to find container located in a Webster Groves park.
