Join Iowa Geocachers Org members for a Geocaching 101 class at Kirkwood Community College - Monticello Center



IGO members will present the basics of GPS receivers and geocaching in a relaxed classroom setting. After a some explaination and Q&A, class will adjourn to the field where participants will have the opportunity to hunt several geocaches placed for the class. Experienced geocachers will be on hand to accompany new players on the hunt.

"Loaner" GPS units will be available for people without one of their own.

Date: Saturday March 18th
Time: 9:00am till around 12:00 noon

Location: Kirkwood Community College - Monticello Center, Room 301

Cost: $15 per person

Everyone is welcome to join us (to help or not) for the outdoors portion at no cost.   With a couple of exceptions (these people know who they are) everyone who wants to attend the classroom portion of the event needs to register with Kirkwood and pay the registration fee.   Sorry, but this is Kirkwoods class after all.

Extra Incentive: Two geocoins have been donated as a door prizes. Only people who have officially registered for the class (and paid the registration fee) will be eligible for the drawings.

The field portion of this event includes actual geocaching conditions, plan accordingly for the day (ie: weather). Please wear comfortable footware and 'outdoor' clothing.

IGO members helping with the field portion of the event should arrive at n42°12.508 w91°06.474 - Pictured Rocks (the gate below Camp Courageous on 190th St.) at around 10:00am. If there is still snow on the ground, the gate will be locked and we'll have to trek down the hill to the park.
