Michael: Received at Groundspeak via email.

"I am writing to inform you that the Lyons Peak View geocache has been placed on a privately owned nature preserve in the middle of the patch of two endangered plant species (see photo of one on the page for the cache) without the permission of the landowner. The Nature Conservancy, whom I represent, owns and manages the land. From the webpage it was placed 11/4/2005 and Use waypoint GCR79W is the reference #. The coordinates are 512945E, 3623019N. Please remove the information from your website as the cache was placed literally in the middle of a patch of endangered plants that are small and easily trampled. Also, please contact the person that placed the cache to let them know that although the area is open for hiking, that all users MUST stay on the trails as there are twelve rare, threatened and endangered species in the area many of which are easily trampled unlike the Dehesa nolina picture on your website.

We are happy to know that people enjoy our lands and the resources they protect, but to ensure that these resources are there for future generation we restrict access to on-trail use."

Geocache Description:

There is a great view of Lyons Peak from the location of this cammo-painted large tin container which is accessed up a steep trail from parking near " You Can Cache" (GCPMXD).

This cache is located a bit off the main trail, but there is no hard bushwacking to get to the cache. If you are heading for this cache from the east, just past the huge Agave plant, turn to the right and stay on the lowest trail. That trail takes you past " Just Showin' the Way" (GCPN34) and is an "easier" trail up the mountain.

Just below the cache location, I noticed some of the pale, endangered Dehesa Nolina plants that grow up here on Mt. McGinty, but which I haven't seen very many other places around the county.

The cache is large enough to hold some big items. The original contents include a Taco Bell chihuahua dog toy, a mouse pad with wrist rest, an insulated can holder, some other items, as well as the logbook and the Geocaching explainer.
