This event has been organised with help and support from the
National Trust for Scotland and is provisionally set for
FRIDAY the 22nd of JUNE 2007. This date
may have to be moved to Saturday the 23rd if the weather is too
rough to get to the island on the 22nd. The last place on the Orca
(other ways of getting to the island are still available!) has gone
at the time of writing. Please add the event to your watchlist for
news when it's available.
Having climbed
Snowdon in 2004,
Ben Nevis in 2005 and
Scafell Pike in 2006, all for cache events, I thought it'd be
interesting to go 'out' rather than 'up' in 2007. My first target,
Rockall, proved to be too hard to get to and too dangerous to get
onto - also too small to offer visitors much to look at! St Kilda
is a much better prospect. :)
Depending on anyone dropping out (please leave a note saying if
you'd like to come), £140 seats on a boat called The Orca may
become available, sailing from Harris (visit kildacruises.co.uk) but anyone with the skills and
equipment (their own boat!) to reach the island is welcome. Even
with the Orca full, other routes to St Kilda, from Oban and
Ullapool for example, are still available and the event is still
open to all cachers. ALL attendees must follow St
Kilda byelaws, seen here. The location is ecologically and
archaeologically delicate so great care must be taken on the
island. Sorry dog owners, but no dogs are allowed on the
islands due to the number of sea birds nesting there.
It's also planned to leave a physical cache on Hirta, the main
island, to celebrate the event, again with the help of the National
Trust for Scotland.

As a part of this adventure, we plan to visit the UK's most remote trigpoint, TP6131. It's
a mere 63.9km (39.7 miles) from the next one.
