Canoe Creek is home to a major bat colony including many of our
favorite The Little Brown. A single Little Brown Bat can eat 3000
insects a night and 1000 can eat 2600 pounds of insects in the
summer. Penn State found that the farmers around Canoe Creek need
to use much less pesticide and there are fewer mosquitos in the
area due to the large maternity colony in the Canoe Creek Church.
Many different species hibernate in an abandoned mine in the park.
If you get a chance, check out some of the bat exhibits.
This cache, named in honor of our insectivorous friends is located
along the Moore's Hill Trail about 100 feet off the trail. You can
park at the trail head on Beaver Dam Road at 40 29.651, 078 16.097.
From there it is about a 0.35 mile walk to the cache. The trail by
the creek has a major mud hole that is seasonal. The trail turns up
the hill from the creek at some railroad tie steps. That's the way
to go. From there, let your GPS and caching sense guide you.
The cache is a tupperware canister
