Geocache Description:

General Andrew Lewis Park across from Historical Fort Savannah (Thomas Jefferson slept there) which has been converted to a two star motel.

Civil War Era Women were often compelled to join Army Camps as Soiled Doves practicing the world’s oldest profession. They also performed traditional females roles such as cooking, cleaning and doctoring up the men. Sometimes, they would don a uniform and join the battle disguised as men. One such woman met her demise in the Historical Battle of Lewisburg in West Virginia. The fallen Union soldiers including the Soiled Dove were temporarily buried by the Old Stone Church Graveyard. The Soiled Dove was among the Union Soldiers relocated to Arlington Cemetery. Her granddaughter was a major leader in the Women’s Suffrage movement. This cache honors the Soiled Dove who fought for emancipation of men and the granddaughter who fought for women's right to vote. The Soiled Dove may be buried at Arlington National Park but the cache that honors her reside in her Great Great Grandfather's Camp.
