Geocache Description:

A quick visit to Williams Memorial Park in Dansville will supply you with the missing number needed for the coordinates to the cache. This part is generally a drive-by cache.

Clara Barton was known as a local hero as the founder of Red Cross #1 in Dansville. However, Barton actually grew up in Massachusetts and spent around 15 years teaching there. She gave up teaching and evenually volunteered to help wounded soldiers in the Civil War. In 1864 she became the Superintendent of Union Nurses.
Her connection to Dansville came in 1873 when she spent some time recovering from physical exhaustion at Our Home on the Hillside Spa. From 1876-1886 Barton maintained a residence in Dansville, although much of her time was spent in Washington DC as she had become the first president of the Red Cross. The establishment of the first local Red Cross on August 22, 1881 set the stage for several ancestors' roles in helping others.

At Williams Park you will find a monument built to honor Clara Barton. Find the day in July of the year 2000 that the monument was dedicated to fill in the space below:
N 42 3_. 349
W 077 41. 659

These coordinates will lead you to a nature trail where a tupperware container has been hidden. The cache includes several items Clara would have had available for the wounded and ill. Some items for the kids are also in the cache. A FTF gift certicate may be used to help you stay healthy.

Please take the time to hide the box as it is quite close to the trail.
