Western Mass Scale Solar System - Saturn Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Alberio: Time to retire this old cache and let someone else hide something in the area. The solar system was a fun series in it's day but time to move on.

Thanks to all that enjoyed it.

Geocache Description:

Inspired by the scale model solar system at the Museum of Science in Boston, this cache uses the main dome of the Naismith Hall of Fame to be a scale model sun. The planet caches are at the appropriate scale distance.

At the scale with the dome of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame being the sun, 140' = 1 million miles, Saturn would be a 10 1/2 foot ball of gas, located about 23 1/2 miles away from our scale model sun. Saturn's largest moon Titan, largest in the solar system, size of a soccer ball, orbiting Saturn at a scale distance of about 171 feet. Saturn's rings would be about 4 feet wide, but an impossible thin frost that circle's the planet about 4' away.

The cache is a small ammo can, with a log book and the usual trinkets and small goodies.
