Canton Riverwalk Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mornseer: Sad to report, micro #3 has once again disappeared. I appreciate the cacher who reported this to me (and others).

You don't see many multi-caches up this way any more. This cache was one of my favorites, but I have had a hard time with people removing #3, so I think it is time to archive this one, and open the area for others to use. I may put a different cache out there this summer, but others are free to do that now, if the mood suits them.

Thanks for the support on this one over the years. All remaining containers have been removed.

Geocache Description:

Canton is the county seat of St. Lawrence County, and is also home to St. Lawrence University and Canton College of the State University of New York. Since both the Grasse River and the Little River wind through or near the village, there are quite a few bridges, some of them quite unusual. Your hunt will take you to some pretty spots that many people never see.

This is a sequential multi-cache. There are three microcaches (dark green or camouflaged pill bottles) and a 30-cal. ammo can for the main cache. One of the microcaches is hidden on an island, so you must cross a bridge to reach it.

Each microcache contains (1) suggested parking coordinates; (2) coordinates for the next microcache; and (3) a ROT-13 encrypted hint for the location of the next micro. The last of the three microcaches directs you to the main cache.

Each of the caches is quite near a river. Although the terrain is easy and no tricky hiking is required near any of the locations, please keep close track of small children near the water.

The locations are all popular, especially in warm weather, so some stealth will be required.

Micro #1 is located at the coordinates posted at the top of this page. A suggested parking waypoint is given below. There are two ways to reach Micro #1 from where you park. I recommend walking along the road to the bridge, where you can enjoy watching some rapids on the Grasse River. Then return a bit and walk upstream on the path following the northeast side of the river.

It is probably easiest to drive between the Micro parking locations. The distance between parking spots ranges from 0.3 to 1.4 miles (0.48 to 2.24 km). The walks from each parking spot to the next micro are short (the longest is 8 minutes).
