“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”

The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just over a year and a half, the quest has grown to over three hundred seventy caches hidden in thirty-eight Indiana counties, and two Ohio counties, and the hiders have grown to twenty cacher teams, most of which of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over 825 cacher teams have logged over 9,700 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #348

Second Settlers

Welcome to Harper Cemetery in Liberty Township in Wabash County. You might not see as many really old tombstones in one concentrated space as here on the whole Quest. Burials date to the 1830's. This is a long narrow graveyard and unfortunately some fool has OK'd a water treatment plant right next to it. Whoever is responsible for that ought to have their head examined.

SECOND SETTLERS IN LIBERTY TOWNSHIP--

Mahlon Pearson was born January 10, 1797. He moved to Jefferson County, Tennessee, when he was nine years of age. He moved to Wabash County November 9, 1834. He entered the first forty acres of land in Liberty Township, and served on the first grand jury ever impaneled in Wabash County. He was the father of eleven children.

GRAND OLD CHRISTIAN GENTLEMAN

Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Scott raised a family of three children, two sons, and one daughter. Both sons served in the war of the Rebellion, and the older oone, William died in the service of his country at Otterville, Missouri, December 16, 1861.
