Pioneers Traditional Cache

wingaap: I've had it with the snake incident.

I object to being 'accused' of doing something of which I have no knowledge.
How can a cache be responsible for the action of others.

Geocache Description:

Today, many of the pioneers and later settlers of this area are to be found buried in the forgotten Moggill Cemetery. The cemetery hidden down a bush track, just off Moggill Road, can be found immediately before the 'boom suburb' of Bellbowrie.

The early pioneers of Moggill were not unlike the early pioneers all around Australia. They all faced many hardships and had to struggle with a totally new way of life quite different form the lifestyle that had lead in their homeland.

It is believed that this cemetery had it's 'start' as a church graveyard.

The church is long gone and all that remains is the stately gums as they stand as silent guardians over the many forgotten graves.

The cemetery was vandalised in the late 1960s. Many of the headstones were destroyed and subsequently removed.
Of the 100+ headstones that once adorned the cemetery only these few are left.

In 1988 a group "The Descendants of Moggill Pioneers" banded together to erect a monument to the early pioneers and their families buried in the cemetery.

A nice quiet spot to sit...to think...and to remember.
