Geocache Description:

The original Southern Comfort was muggled during the 2005 Battle of Jonesboro Reenactment. Sherman’s damn Yankees no doubt. They just can’t leave well enough alone. The first two stages remain the same. Only the final cache location has changed.

This is a multi-cache. The above listed coordinates gets you to a museum with a parking lot. The museum is not a place for dogs, and keep a tight hold on the kiddy’s hands as you are near a heavily traveled road and railroad tracks. There is no reason to venture across the tracks. You could probably get the required information from your car. There are two waypoints following. Both have parking and are dog and kid friendly. Some very minor subtraction required.

At the above coordinates find the Jonesboro Women’s Club marker and date. Subtract 37 from the last three digits of the date and place here:
N 33. 30. _ _ _ (The correct date will give you a number ending in zero.)
Note the date over the arched door of the museum on the west side. Subtract 14 from the last three digits of the date and place here:
W 084. 20. _ _ _
Proceed to the coordinates. Hidden there is a micro cache with the coordinates to the last cache. All of the caches are within one mile from the starting location.
Last stage is in a wooded area. There are a couple of wide trails to select. Choose wisely! Only one has an obscure trail that leads to the cache. There is no need to bushwhack.

The Battle for Atlanta and the success of Sherman’s March to the Sea was not won or lost at Kennesaw Mountain or Peachtree Creek north of Atlanta. It was lost south of Atlanta at Jonesboro, Georgia. Vital to General Hood’s defense of Atlanta was the Macon and Western Railroad. Sherman decided to sever that lifeline at Jonesboro. In a two day battle on August 31 and September 1, 1864, the railroad was taken and destroyed. This forced General Hood to evacuate Atlanta on the evening of September 1, 1864.

This cache reflects the historical area of Jonesboro and the Ante Bellum South. The wooded park adjacent to the plantation house is used each year (Second weekend in October) for a Civil War reenactment of the Jonesboro Battle. Here you will find entrenchments from the reenactment.
I also recommend you visit Fallen Soldiers (GCD7BE) that is very close to the first stage.
