You'll enjoy picking up a little knowlege about Coralville's history while searching for this four stage multi cache.
This is a perfect cache for a bicycle ride or hike. Leave your car in the main parking area and ride or walk to the other points.
The co-ords will get you to the main parking area. Before going there you'll need to go to school at N41 40.429 W091 34.236
Stage one. There are several dates on a sign. The one you'll need is the year that Samual J Kirkwood came to the Iowa City area.
With this date proceed to the main parking area noted above.
Stage two. Near the top of the brick facade you'll find a date carved in limestone in large numbers. What is this date?
Below this date you'll find a series of stations that will provide the other information needed.
Find the year Coralville was incorporated.
What year was the upstream Coralville dam completed?
What year was it determined that wheat was no longer a viable crop in Iowa?
What's the date on the photo titled "Ruins of the Paper Mill"?
Now you should have six dates. Add those six date together and divide the result by six. Drop any fractions, and subtract 1339. These three numbers will provide the last three digits of latitude. Keeping the same degrees, and minutes your North co-ord is N41 40.XXX
Using the date that is near the top and front of the facade in large numbers, subtract 1258. Keeping the same degrees and minutes, your longitude will be W091 33.XXX
Now you can proceed to stage three. Enjoy the view and in the winter months watch for eagles fishing in the river below the dam.
Stage three is a pill bottle that will give you the co-ords for the main cache.
Stage four the main cache, is a large container that can hold all the regular geocahing treasures.
