1/2 mile north and 1/2 mile west of Selkirk, Kansas
From a foxhole in Germany during World War II, Willis Reimer promised God that if he got back to Kansas alive, he'd build a chapel in his honor. Reimer did get back to Kansas after serving in the army for three years, and he kept his promise to build that chapel, known as the Selkirk Wayside Chapel.
The 8 foot by 12 foot chapel is made of redwood and has a vaulted ceiling. It contains three church pews from a church in Leoti complete with songbooks in the racks on the back; an altar and a pulpit. Behind the pulpit is a blue stained glass window with a design of praying hands in the glass.
On the wall of the chapel hangs a poem written by Mr. Reimer and his wife about the chapel. The first line of the poem reads..."Oh come to the chapel by the side of the road."
The cache contains a log book, 3 Leoti magnets, 3 Wichita County balloons, and 2 Leoti traveling toothbrushes. The cache container can only hold small items. The Reimer family has given permission for this cache. Please be respectful of the property and its owners.
