“INDIANA SPIRIT
QUEST”
The Indiana Spirit Quest series of
geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries
built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just a year and a half, the quest has
grown to over three hundred caches hidden in twenty-seven Indiana
counties, and two Ohio counties, and the hiders have grown to
seventeen cacher teams, most of which of which are comprised of
Dogs and their Humans. Over 600 cacher
teams have logged over 7,000 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ
caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

"A Proper
Burial"
Welcome to Green Park
Cemetery, located in Wayne Township, Jay County, Portland, Indiana.
This is the largest and most actively-used cemetery in Portland,
and I found many interesting markers and monuments. Browse through
the photos, and take a slow drive through the
cemetery.
I found several markers for veterans of the War of 1812, including
Michael and Joseph Shanks. Michael was a captain of the McKees
company. As I find information regarding their service, I will
update this listing.
This is a marker for Daniel McNeal, who named the town of
Portland. He died in 1864 at the age of
62.
FIND LOGS ON THIS CACHE THAT INDICATE NIGHT CACHING WILL BE DELETED
WITHOUT NOTICE!
The cache container is
an 35mm film canister. Bring your own pen. Please replace
the cache so that it as at least as well concealed as when you
found it.
The cache is not located near a grave... If you find a fallen US
flag, please stick it back in the ground. As always, please be
respectful, and cache in, trash out. Say a prayer for our brave
troops, fighting overseas. God Bless America!
