Geocache Description:

Check out a historic area of Redlands.

This is our very FIRST attempt at placing a cache. Comments are welcome to help use better place the next one.

A collection of eighteen Norman Revival cottages organized around a central driveway. Based on the rural architecture of Normandy, the picturesque cottages feature high hipped roofs, conical towers, wavy shingling patterns on the roofs, and stucco wall finishes of varying texture. The original 16 petite houses were built by F.E. Corson and C.R. Hudson. They are a fine example of French "Chateaux" Eclectic and was the first home occupied in this development. It features a steeply pitched crossed-hipped roof with no overhang, casement and double hung windows, stucco walls, stuccoed chimney with a reversed progressive step pattern, and a prominent round tower. The tower houses the principal doorway and is capped with a metal "Candle-snuffer". Constructed during the building boom of the 1920s, the subdivision's homes mimic the fairy tale houses and quaint cottages returning soldiers had seen in Europe. Commonly known as the “Munchkin Houses”, “Hansel and Gretel Houses” and other names.

Listed coordinates are for the first step of the cache where the clues are located to help find the actual cache. Please park on Clark Street - short walk to everywhere else.

To get GPS coordinates for actual cache:

1. N 34º 02.XXX’, where XXX = the sum of the house numbers of the two corner houses + 263

2. W 117º 11.YYY’, where YYY = the number of houses in this historic district with cone-shaped towers over the front door multiplied by 40 and then minus 3 (make sure you walk all the way up the street)

Container is a small, 4-oz Tupperware-like container with log, pencil, and a few small trinkets. Between overhead wires and trees, was a bit difficult to get a steady GPS reading.
