10/25/07: After years
of dealing with low quality cachers stealing, breaking,
plundering, and misplacing my caches, I'm exhausted. I have
tried to provide quality, creative, and original caches for
over six years, costing me a good amount of time and money.
Sometimes the only reward is yet another cut n' paste log
from a numbers-obsessed cacher. Coupled with the ongoing
damage at my caches, it just ain't worth it and it's not fun.
I will continue my normal maintenance visits but I am now
archiving all my caches if they are again ruined by LQCs (or
if the cache is controversial in any way). This process may
be quick or long depending on the cachers that come here. For
the enjoyment of future cachers, please take care of this
cache just as indicated below to help preserve this hide. I
do send a BIG thanks to all the high quality cachers who have
helped support me and my caches through the years. Much
appreciated! -CoolCache
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
As I cache all around the country it seems everyone now just
places micros... micros, micros, micros everywhere! This really
blows when you're trying to place a "not-small" travel bug in that
city. And if poorly done, a micro is not just un-fun it's
infuriating! Sometimes you really want the comfort and capabilities
of a full sized cache. But while this shortage of full-sized hides
is frustrating I think I understand it. Micros are sometimes easier
to keep at a high quality level.
Many who have hidden full-sized hides in the past give up on
doing more. Look around on-line and you will see VERY few new
regular-sized geocaches being placed. They are harder to hide, make
muggle-proof, and maintaining a quality treasure level sometimes
seems impossible. People are selfish in their trades and will
ALWAYS ransack the good treasure, leaving garbage they got for
free. This alone often discourages quality full size placers, like
me, from placing more.
On the other hand a micro is low maintenance: there's no
contending with less than scrupulous cachers taking the good stuff
and leaving geocrap. No spending money to re-stock it with good
items endlessly when it's ransacked by LQCs. Yes, a well-placed
micro can be refreshing for its maintainer.
So there's no guilt with CoolCache here with this "No Stock
Micro"... the three other full-sized caches on this trail that I
maintain keep me busy enough (and many others). Don't have to worry
about geo-crap or stocking here. Serenity now. No schwag, no room,
no worries... and oh yeah, no pen either. Micros tend to be a
little skimpy on the amenities. Enjoy!
Welcome to paved trail caching!
CoolCache says there are few caching experiences as fun as a paved
river trail: scenic views, good privacy for searching, great
productivity, and they allow for some fun biking or xootering while
bringing your "dog friend" along (my dog friend). Great exercise for her, great
caching for you! While on the trail and in addition to several
others, check out all the CoolCache hides, listed below north to
south. Launch points can either be 126th South or 146th South at
the "Spring View Farms" trail head with good parking available at
both locations. Cache on!
Please sign the log small and legibly and no stickers please!
