This is a local historical area. Chenies is the name of the property settled by John Okey Davis and his family in 1829. They were among the first European settlers in the Gosnells area. The property covered most of the present suburbs of Huntingdale, Gosnells and Southern River. Davis built his mud brick home and cultivated an area the size of the present park where he grew wheat and vegetables watering them from the river. When Mr and Mrs Davis died they were buried near their home and their gravesite still remains at the southern end of the park.

The nearby local history museum is open Wednesdays 10am - 2pm and Sundays 2pm - 5pm.
