Geocache Description:

Near a compass rose in the public trail system behind San Clemente.

This was originally the third location of my now-archived Compass Hill Multicache. The first two caches of that one kept disappearing due to fire prevention grass clearing. This is the only one that kept surviving. It is located along a public trail system in the foothills of San Clemente. Although there are multiple trailheads which access the system, the easiest starting point is from Costero Risco off of Camino Vera Cruz. The sign indicating Private Street only applies to the portion of the road beyond the sign. If you enter from Camino Vera Cruz and park before the sign you will be OK. If you start from this point, you can visit the "corral" and the "rock garden" on the way. This can also be done in conjunction with my Stonehenge cache. I am told that following Stonehenge, the trail continues to Ortega Highwy, but I have not verified this. The official name for this little hill is Panorama Point but I thought Compass Hill was more appropriate.
