Geocache Description:

A small beach safe is hidden near the Wissahickon Creek in Fairmount Park.

The best place to park is the Kitchen's Lane parking area: N 40 02.254 W 075 12.194

The trail with the green blazes is the fastest way to a beautiful area near the Kitchen's Lane Bridge.

On Christmas day of 1723, six converts to the Brethren Church entered the chilly waters of the Wissahickon to perform the Christian rite of baptism. This was the first Baptist baptism in America. What made them special was that they used a total immersion baptism which is the reason they are often referred to as "the Dunkards". After the ceremony, the group of twenty-three, returned to a cabin in Germantown for feet washing, holy communion and the lord's supper (also known as a love feast). Thus, the Brethren Church started in the new world.

We visited this site on Christmas Eve and hid the cache close to the water in honor of these early settlers. You will find a plaque commemorating the Christmas Day baptism on the side of the trail. The previous cache was washed away during summer rainstorms; new location is on the same level as the plaque, a bit upstream. Please rehide the cache well.
