Geocache Description:

This cache was made possible by the generosity of sledgehampster! Most all of the cache terrain is paved walkway; the final bit will be off the trail, however.

Another sledgehampster "Ironworks" installment with some very personal meaning for TeamVilla5.

We placed this cache in honor of my late great-grandfather, Robert Redden, who was a locally & regionally renowned artist; this footbridge was named for and dedicated to him in 1985.

Bridge History: This bridge was built in 1905 by American Bridge Company (New York), spanning roughly 440 feet. It originally was a railroad overpass (Papa and his brother used to play on the tracks & jump off into the river when trains would come by).

About Papa: Robert Redden was loved by everyone who knew him, as he was a very quiet, gentle soul. His talents can be seen in the Rome Museum and The Sara Hightower library; most pieces, however, are now in private collections. More personal and amusing anecdotes are included in the cache on the back of a laminated card with one of Papa's most recognized works on the other side; please leave this card in the cache for others to look at and enjoy.

The following trade items are the original contents of the cache:

Support Our Troops bracelet--representing Papa's military service
Coca-Cola keychain--represents Papa's many years painting signs for the Coca-Cola Company
Eyeball ping pong ball--represents Papa's eye for detail
Mini Shihtzu figure--represents Papa's love of animals
Porcupine Smiley man--represents Papa's joie de vivre
Emily Corpse Bride TB--represents Papa, the eternal romantic

Thanks for helping our family remember and honor this wonderful man and part of Rome's rich history! Happy Caching!
