Oh! Joy Begins Here – a Cache of Gifts Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ohjoy!: I have replaced the gifts in this cache at least 4 times. I have decided that since cachers don't trade evenly, I can no longer afford to support this cache.

If you want to use this location, I will donate a container.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

I am placing this cache and submitting it on my birthday. So where else would I place it other than at the beginning of Joy Avenue? (Or is it the end of Joy? That just doesn’t sound as nice.) Well, at my age you give gifts rather than receive them on your birthday. This cache is my gift to each one of you.

I went to a geocaching “white elephant” gift exchange a few days ago. All the gifts were useful in some way. Most of us received something that was very appealing to us because the gifts were great! Those who didn’t get what they wanted said that they would still find a way to use what they received. There were no actual “white elephant” gifts.

This cache (ammo can) is like that white elephant gift exchange in that while your gift will be a surprise, each will be a nice one.

GIFT ETIQUETTE:
Ø If you take a gift, leave another one in its place for the next cacher.
Ø All gifts must be wrapped.
Ø All gifts should be worth at least $1 and in new condition.
Ø All gifts are surprises.
Ø Do NOT open your gift until you return to your means of transportation – if you find that what you took is not appealing to you, keep it anyway – you can always leave it in a future cache.
Ø There are five gifts of various types in the cache. Some are for youth and others for adults – please take the SAME type that you leave.
Ø Trading is NOT required.

IN ADDITION: If you want to drop off a special gift for someone, please use this cache that way – just add it to the collection and be certain it is well marked with their name. You may know that someone is going to find this cache in the next few days and may want to leave a special surprise for them.

1/6/6 - IMPORTANT NOTE: Since I talked about the cache being at the beginning of Joy Avenue, I just figured that's where people would go to approach it - from the east - from Joy Avenue. Makes the trip a lot easier!

1/8/6 - Vicious dogs? Machetes? I placed this cache on the weekend with people around. The dogs - I just said, "Stay!" and they stayed/stood. The machete - I would have asked if I could borrow it! It is a legal road access, not private property. However, if you are concerned, do approach from the west up the steps - in which case the terrain rating goes up a notch.

***2/9/06 - Upgraded the container from a small to a large ammo can. Met the owner of the house where the dogs also live. He liked the idea enough that he used my GPS and found the cache himself. So park at the beginning of Joy Avenue, pet the dogs, and find the cache.

***3/15/09 - I feel so sad that along the line cachers have felt the need to remove gifts without replacing them. This was meant to be a surprise gift exchange.
- It may be awhile before I am able to find a few nice items to drop off again for exchange.
- I won't disable the cache for now, but know that there are no gifts to be exchanged at this time.
