This cache is located on the Upper Cox Bridge in Northfield Falls. There are five historic covered bridges in Northfield and Northfield Falls. There are actually six, but the sixth was built in 1959 and is privately owned, so I don't consider that one too historic. Your job is to visit the bridge the cache is located at and get an up-close view of one of these beautiful pieces of architecture.
The cache name comes from the fact that I hid this cache months ago! I have no idea why, but I forgot all about it until the other day when I checked to see if everything was still intact. It was right where I left it.
The cache is located somewhere on the Upper Cox Bridge. The bridge is not that big. There are three other beautiful bridges in Northfield Falls you can visit (and you should). The coordinates will get you to the Upper Cox Bridge. You have to do the rest.
If you want to visit the other bridges in Northfield Falls and Northfield, here are their coordinates:
SLAUGHTERHOUSE BRIDGE (Built circa 1872)
N44 10.109 W072 39.264
MOSELY BRIDGE (1899)
N44 07.219 W072 41.344
UPPER COX BRIDGE (1872). The cache is located here.
N44 10.410 W072 39.313
STATION BRIDGE or Middle Cox Bridge (1872)
N44 10.347 W072 39.071
NEWELL BRIDGE or Lower Cox Bridge (1872)
N44 10.367 W072 39.175
Bring your camera because standing at Station Bridge (Lower Cox Brook) you can see Newell Bridge (Middle Cox Brook) just up the Road. This is the only place in New England where you can do this, and I have heard, the only place east of the Mississippi River. The three bridges on Cox Brook Road are less than 2/10 of a mile apart, so if you plan on spending some time (and you might depending on how good of a cacher you are), park at the Northfield Falls General Store and just walk up Cox Brook Road to see all three. If you are coming from the west over the Moretown Mountain Road, you might miss the other two if you decide to turn around and go back. Just walk down the road a few hundred feet for the other bridges.
When looking for this cache, keep an eye on your children. You will be around water and that adds a whole new dimension to caching. Also, watch out for the cars going by on some of the roads. They can come up on you quickly. If you have good cache sense, you will know you are close when you come upon it. You are looking for an ammo can. The last few feet could be difficult for some and might require some acrobatic moves for others. The pucker factor is whatever you make of it, but I did NOT design this to be dangerous. Replace the cache as you found it and I am not responsible for how wet you might end up.
*****UPDATE April 22, 2006*****
I just want to thank everyone who has taken the time out to find this cache and to all who have yet to find it. I will be deployed in support of the Global War on Terrorism to Iraq for about 14 months. Darrel of DJ and Cal has graciously agreed to adopt my caches and maintain them while I am gone and I really appreciate that. Thanks everyone and see you next year!
