Located on Texada Island, Pocahontas Bay is another great spot to take the family for a picnic. The drive is a bit rough, so you'll want to take a vehicle with good clearance or 4x4. The Bay is home to lots of water fowl, so be sure to take binocs and an ID book. Kid and Dog friendly, Pocahontas Bay is another hidden beauty on Texada Island.
Getting there! Once you're off the ferry, drive 9 kms to a T intersection and turn left to Vananda. The streets in Vananda are very confusing, so follow the directions carefully!
Turn right just past the Fire Station, then turn right just past the Post Office. You will be heading uphill. Turn right on Columbia St, which will turn into Midas Ave. Turn right onto Wall St, which turns into Central Rd (non-marked dirt road), and you will follow this for approx. 8 kms. At N 49 42.425 W 124 28.074, turn left onto the dirt road leading into the woods. It is approx. 4.4 km to Pocahontas Bay.
We recommend parking at the Bay, and walking the rest (5 min.)
Cache is a green rubbermaid container full of goodies for all ages! It is well hidden, and will take some hunting to find.
NOTE: If you are interested in more Texada Island caches, turn left when you get back to Central Rd. and drive 6.5 kms to intersection, turning right onto Shelter Point Rd. This will lead you to Shelter Point Nature Trail, home of "Gnome's Shelter" cache. From there you can make the loop back to the ferry by following Gillies Bay Rd to T intersection and turning left back to Blubber Bay, where you might try the "Blubber Bay" cache! Enjoy your time on Texada!
