Geocache Description:

This cache can be found near the Little Shepherd Trail. It is a very short easy walk to the cache. Please make sure you put the lid back on securely and re-hide the cache as good or better than what it was before you found it.

There will be a small vernal pond nearby. Vernal ponds are a type of seasonal or temporary wetland. These ponds periodically dry up and do not contain fish. Drying may occur annually or only in drought years. In general they dry most often in late summer or early fall; heavy rains may fill them any time of year. The wet-dry cycle prevents fish from becoming established, allowing critical breeding and rearing habitat for amphibians, crustaceans and insects. They also provide a water and food source for many birds, reptiles and mammals. Vernal ponds play an essential part in establishing a healthy ecosystem. When you visit this site let us know what you see and hear in and around the vernal pond.
