Follow the river (aka Queluz #7) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

afonso_loureiro: Com as recentess enxurradas, o esconderijo da cache ficou em mau estado. A limpeza das margens da Ribeira de Carenque expõe a cache demasiado ao barulho do IC19, pelo que se arquiva.

Geocache Description:

Park in front of the Palace and the follow the GPS...

This cache will take you along the old trail that follows the southern wall of the Palace of Queluz. It runs along the Carenque Creek too.
It used to be abandoned, with lots of bushes covering most of the trail, but nowadays it is slightly more looked after. There isn't much CITO to do, but I always manage to bring back the odd plastic bag and beer bottle.

The cache is now a small tupperware. It's not inside a black trash bag so it isn't in plain view.

Sometimes you can see wild ducks in the river. A few years ago this was just a dream, since the river was so polluted. Downstream, the Carenque Creek meets the Jamor River, just when it leaves the Palace Gardens.

Trivia 1: The Carenque Creek has this name because it passes through the Carenque village, where there is a quarry with some dinossaur tracks. It is also a place where there are a few Megalithic monuments.

Trivia 2: The word Carenque can be loosely translated into a Celtic form as Kar Enque, which mean Stone Circle or Stone Henge, if you prefer.

Trivia 3: If you follow the trail to the river you can see, on the opposite wall, a little rectangle with a mark on it. That mark refers to a flood in 1967. Pretty high, isn't it?
