Geocache Description:

Located in Pine Park near the historic Rothschild Pavilion and the Rothschild/Schofield Aquatic Center. Use the stairs behind the pavilion (Caution: They can be slippery) or walk the handicap accessible road. Unfortunately the cache itself is not handicap accessible.

The historic Rothschild (or Pine Park) Pavilion is nearly 100 years old but is no longer in regular use. Pine Park is closed from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am.

The Pavilion is listed in the State and National Register and was originally built as a terminal end for the local street car run to generate business for the streetcar company "Wausau Street Railway Co." which is today "Wisconsin Public Service. In the first half of the last century the Pavilion was the gathering place for area wide community events and has a 6,000 square foot dance floor supported by 28 railroad car springs set on top of granite stone foundations. This gives the floor bounce or as is often referred to, as a floating dance floor effect believed to be the only one of its kind in the country.

There is an open house including tours and refreshments each Saturday morning from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.

The cache is now a camouflaged 35 mm film canister. It replaces the standard ammo can originally hidden by lilypad4 but never published for reasons unknown.
