Water Water Everywhere Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

rufnredy: Hmmm...

Stage 1 flat disappeared ... the whole tree line is gone ... looks like more townhouses are on the way ... trading urban sprawl for nature's beauty ... sounds like Loudoun County's normal course of business ...

Stage 2 was just not to be found ... not sure where it went ...

Final was a pile of geotrash ... cleaned out and all trash removed ...

Archiving for now ... may try to rework this one in another location ... was a very well done Blunoz effort ... sorry to see it go ...

Geocache Description:

Note: Listing UPDATED on 25 Jan 2006 based on feedback from FTF winners Beach Buddies and Bisanabi.

The cache IS NOT AT THE COORDINATES LISTED. The coordinates listed are for a pair of water towers just off of Belmont Ridge Road. None of the stages of this multi-cache are inside or near the fence of the water towers, so please don’t draw attention to yourself and make people think you’re some sort of terrorist by poking around the water towers’ fence.

CAUTION: There is most definitely poison ivy in close proximity to stage 1, so be sure you know how to recognize (click here for a picture) the vine form of it that climbs up trees and looks furry (no leaves - at least in the winter).

I had intended this to be a letterbox, but it turned out to be more of a puzzle cache. In any case, the final stage of this cache is an ammo can that contains a letterbox stamp, stamp pad, and a nice log book. To log your visit, stamps are preferred, but you may either stamp, draw a picture, or write some verse (either your favorite poem or something original of your own).

The title of this cache came from the poem:

6-5-2-3-8    1-7    8-5-8    3-5 -7-9-8-5-8    3-3-6-9-5-2-6

By

0-3-3-9-8-7    8-3-2-7-1-6    7-1-7-8-6-9-3-1-8

To find the first stage of this three-stage multi-cache, you will want to park in the vicinity of:

N  39-01.LAT
W077-31.LON

You can click on this link to check and see if you got the coordinates correct:

Click to verify coordinates

Starting from these coordinates:
  • Which direction was the ship sailing in the first verse of "Part the Second"? Start facing that direction, and turn left 50 degrees.

  • How many nautical miles are there in one degree of latitude? Take that many paces in the direction you are now facing.

  • The North Pole is at how many degrees of latitude? Turn right that many degrees.

  • How many continents are there? Take that many more paces.

  • Look for a tree that wouldn’t let barbed wire get in it’s way.

Some things you might want to know:
  • From the parking coordinates, I walked to place all three stages of the cache.

  • I did not have to cross or climb any fences to place any of the stages (although I did see a few deer and had to watch where I stepped because there was deer dung everywhere).

  • Deer are smart. They don't like thorns. If you don't like thorns, you'd be wise to follow the paths the deer have made. I tried taking a "short-cut" back to my car after placing the log book and stamp in the final cache stage, and got cut-up pretty good by thorns.

  • IMPORTANT: There will be a quick puzzle in each of the stages to find the next stage. COME PREPARED!

  • Stay away from the water towers and the fence around the water towers. If muggles see anyone around the water towers, they’ll think you’re a terrorist and call the police.

  • At some point during this experience, you might find it useful to know that a trail of sorts begins IVO N39 01.L22 W077 31.66N.

No clues to start. This should NOT be hard. If nobody is able to figure it out, then I will start posting hints.

CONGRATULATIONS to Beach Buddies and Bisanabi on the FTF! FTF prize was an unregistered German 2006 World of Geocaching geocoin.
