An exciting cache, we challenge you to come and find it....
Though we say it ourselves, we think this is a storming cache site! This is one of our favourite walks, starting from the car park area by White Coppice cricket pitch (if you can find a space).
Please note - we have rated this cache for the walk as described below. However, there are easier approaches along the hillside avoiding the stream which will considerably reduce the terrain rating. Although you can of course just find your own way there without any advice from us, we have described our usual approach as we think it makes it such a great hike.
From the cricket pitch head out past the pavilion towards the hill. Bear right and then head upwards to start following the streamside path with the quarry on your left. Basically follow the stream and your GPS uphill and keep going!!
Please note - parts of this route involve scrambling as well as crossing the stream and there are some steep drops. In summer this is easy but after heavy rain when the stream is high, or when the rocks are slick it is much more exciting!! We manage it with the mini-kippers (age 4 and 7) but there are some tricky bits. Children need close supervision and an adult to child ratio of 1 to 1 is helpful especially for younger children.
From the cache site you can retrace your steps or follow the obvious path back over the hill. Alternatively we often continue up the stream and eventually cut straight up onto the hilltop, then return back down the main path.
In summer bring your picnic and your paddling things!
