Geocache Description:

Payback for what? I don’t really know. Maybe all of those quirky caches I have done – and enjoyed! Placed also in honor of Friday, January 13, 2006. I decided not to limit finding it to those rare Friday the 13th days.

READ THE WAYPOINT 1 HINT TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THAT BEAUTIFUL OLD STUMP!!

Coords a tad bad? Well, what do you expect from a Friday the 13th cache? There are great instructions here for waypoint 1. PLEASE USE IT TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE STUMP!! You will find hints equally as good in waypoints 1, 2 and 3 to guide you on your way.

TRAIL ENTRANCE: N 47º 03.126 W 122º 48.587.

PARKING: recommended around the corner from the trail entrance to avoid potential theft.

WAYPOINT 1: placed to get you on the correct trail.

WAYPOINT 1 INSTRUCTIONS – As you start down the correct trail, you will see a huge stump to your right. Walk 3/4s of the way around it and look under a broken piece of mossy bark 4-5’ up. Lift it and you are ready to begin your walk in the woods.

DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY!!

This cache should provide an education in more than one way.

4/17/06 Today I had the privelege of meeting the man who cares for this part of St. Martins' property. His name is Dean and he extends an open invitation to any and all to walk the trails and stop by to see where he lives. Dean is a retired vet.

To get to his home, continue on the trail past wp2. If he is there, he will be glad to show you his space and talk to you about the plants growing in the area. If he is not there, he still invites you to explore his space.

*** If you see a barrier as you first start down the trail, it means that Dean is not at home. He says it is his way to stop friends from making a wasted trip to see him. You should just bypass it if it is up when you do the cache.

He invites all of you to help yourself to tea or water in the shed. He filters all of his water or buys it at the local grocery store due to concerns about giardia if he uses water from Woodland Creek.

He also says that the outhouse is meant to be used and he keeps TP stocked there.

I had a delightful visit and hope that many of you will be able to take the time to do the same. I'll be back and probably bring some cookies and a clump of a wildflower that grows in my yard, but not by his place.
