Douglas View Traditional Cache

Deceangi: Rather than keep this cache temporarily disabled (which should only be used for shortish periods) I'm archiving it. If/when the cache is ever replaced I'll gladly unarchive it assuming it still meets the guidelines.

Geocache Description:

Located close to the River Douglas, the cache can be reached by a short walk from the A59 over fairly easy terrain. This is our first cache so we haven't made it that difficult to find.

The cache is a small sandwich box containing a few items that we have retrieved from other caches around the country.

The River Douglas, also known as the River Asland, is a river in Lancashire in the north west of England. It is a tributary of the River Ribble and has itself two tributaries, the River Tawd and the River Yarrow.

At Tarleton, the Douglas is joined by the Rufford Branch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. In 1714 an act of Parliament was passed allowing Robert Holt of Crooke Hall to make the Douglas navigable to small ships. The river rises on Winter Hill and flows for 35 miles through the town of Wigan and onto the Ribble estuary past Tarleton, the last 10 miles or so being tidal.
