While out in Osceola exploring Jeep trails with IceCreamMan, we
happened upon a water hazard. We wondered how deep it was and
whether we should risk it. What stopped us from proceeding was a
bit of Jeep lore that finally sunk in. We noticed a very nice
turnaround spot right before the water hazard. It finally occurred
to us a previous group of Jeepers had gotten stuck and used this
spot to turn around. The good sized pile of logs in the middle of
the water helped cement our thought process. With the mounting
evidence we saw, there was no point in taking the risk especially
if there was no smiley waiting for us if we made it!
While pondering all this (and congratulating ourselves on our
massive brain power), we decided to leave a cache in the event any
future geocachers decided to make the attempt. Just in case said
geocachers get stuck, the cache is well stocked with various
survival items such as a snake bite kit, water purification
tablets, fire starting kit, etc. Please keep trades to similar
items..... just in case.
Some slight bushwhacking is involved especially if you wait
until Summer. There is a very pretty stream
nearby. The ground tends toward the damp side so don't wear
your "Sunday go-to-meetin'" clothes. ICM has proven that
shorts are OK but his shins may disagree.
Cache on!
