Geocache Description:

Enjoy a nice round trip hike of about 1.2 miles in the Gorge at Caesar Creek State Park to find a micro that's really "in the wood(s)".

Cache with confidence - cache was placed with permission

History:
Caesar Creek State Park is named in honor of an African American slave who was captured and subsequently adopted by the Shawnee Indians. The Shawnee Indians, who called southwestern Ohio home, “gave” the land to Caesar after proving himself as a fine Shawnee warrior. Caesar spent much time in this area along with his very close comrade and war chief Blue Jacket (who may have been a captured white man according to Allan W. Eckert, but that is another story). Although Caesar’s Creek has long since been dammed up for flood control as part of the Little Miami River Watershed, the area south of the lake is known as the Caesar Creek Gorge and contains the last few miles of the creek - this is the location of the cache. Park at the Caesar Creek Gorge parking lot and begin the hunt by heading south on the Gorge Loop Trail (take a right after crossing the bridge). The cache is located about .53 miles into the trail and it is a micro with just enough room for a log - no bushwacking is required (now) and you won't need to get more than 9-12 feet off of the trail. Although the terrain is not difficult, you will experience a couple of hundred feet of elevation change over a fairly short distance so if you use poles you might want to bring them. The scenery is fantastic along the entire route and I would suggest finishing the loop (total trip of 1.2 miles or so) to get back to the parking lot. The more I see nice land being gobbled up for shopping centers, the more I appreciate areas like this one. The cache has been approved by Joe Bertolini, the park manager of Caesar's Creek State park. Please follow all park guidelines (http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/parks/caesarck.htm)
