Geocache Description:

Easy level area near Lake Kushaqua.

Built in 1900 and opened in 1901 Stony Wold was a premier TB Sanatarium Stony Wold Sanatarium near Onchiota "was opened by a Trudeau admirer” to treat working girls in the initial stages of tuberculosis. Stony Wold was an important influence on the financial growth of the Adirondack Region. It closed in 1955 and was bought by the Ogdensburgh Diocese of the Catholic Church to be administered by the White Fathers as a Boys Camp named Camp Lavigerie in 1958. In 1962 the Camp was closed and the Franciscan Friars used it a Seminary while their facility in Saranac Lake was being built.
The main Building and out Buildings were raised in the 1970's by NYS.
The chapel building near Lake Kushaqua is the only remaining building. It has been the community hall and chapel and movie theater for the Tuberculosis treatment center and has been the chapel for the "White Fathers" (medical missionaries to Africa, originally from France and known for their white robes) The White Father's Tiffany windows are now installed at the New-York Historical Society Museum at Central Park West and 77th Street. They are on the stair landing outside the third floor. Does anybody have any info on the fate of the "Black Jesus" figurine?
