Geocache Description:

After a few weeks of cancer ravishing her, and various tests and treatments including chemotherapy, Dairy lost the fight @ 1645 on January 9, 2006.
This cache is placed in memory of this very special pooch, my direction detecting Dane.

She has accompanied me on almost all my cache hunts. Starting with my first find, Cache in a Snag, over four yeas ago, to my last one with her, number 1988, Mitch’s Micro, last week.
The cache container is a standard ammo box hidden reasonably close to parking @ at N42°08.135' W88°05.500'. It’s about 200 feet from the old dirt horse trail recently improved with crushed rock. Originally stocked with some dog stuff but you don’t have to leave a dog thing or anything at all. If you wish just take one of the eulogy cards I’ve placed there. They’re numbered just to make the one you take a little special. Number one goes to the first finder of course.

Dairy has two commemorative caches in the area, A Plug for Dairy by camp637 here in Deer Grove West and Dairy by JBGeo in the Paul Douglas FP. A big thank you to camp637 and JBGeo for those. And another big thank you to Panther in the Den, Nervous Nick, and philroi for their Oh Where, Oh Where ... cache at the 2004 picnic. I keep one of the LOST DOG posters on the wall next to my PC. Since I’m thanking people for their considerations of my canine partner I can’t forget Maleki for leaving a book on Great Danes in SpongeRob’s Paws Down cache. Another thank you to Squonkpups who left a water toy for Dairy in his Big Bend Crater cache. That toy is with Dairy at this moment. Genius Loci had Dairy in mind when he set up The Road that Never Was cache, very considerate. And let’s not forget Greenback for Dairy’s door prize bone at the 2005 Breakfast in the SW Burbs.

Caching won’t be same without my buddy, but the geocaching bug has infected me so I’ll continue to pursue FTFs and all others.

MEMORABLE CACHES WITH DAIRY.
Read the individual logs for more detailed info:

Row, Row, Row Your Boat by Dr Spyro.
Found 7/7/02. A fear of water challenge for Dairy here. Though she didn’t have to get wet, getting her into the boat was the problem. Fortunately I had my three grandsons with me to coax her.

Cacheopoly 4 -- Go Vertical by m2orris.
Found 1/9/03. This area is similar to the Swallow Cliff FP. Dairy loved scampering up and down the very steep terrain.

Marsh Madness! by Krazy Cachers.
Found 5/6/03. Dairy did not like water but could be coaxed. She did a good balanced walk here and didn’t get wet.

No Parking Here 7…Auto Parts by TEAM STUJAC
Found 10/29/03. Dairy almost got busted here.

Brookdale by Havaharley.
Found 3/22/04. This was probably the only cache that Dairy actually found where I would have never found without her and for an FTF no less.

Confluere by Dad and the Dynamic Duo.
Found 6/23/04. Had to guess at the approach here to reach the correct side of the creeks, else Dairy would not have crossed the water. This probably was the longest hike to a single cache site. The head (mine) tall grass made following very difficult for Dairy.

Crik Cache by GYMSON.
Found 10/27/04. The highlight here was the picture of Dairy and Mr. JiggyFly’s Cooper that made the 2005 official Geocaching calendar July collage.

"Ask yerself this one question: Is it worth it?" by Nervous Nick.
Found 11/28/04. Dairy had fun putting a flock of several hundred geese into the air. Then followed me through the marsh to the cache. She wouldn’t follow me into the deep water but waited nervously on a grass mound while I retrieved the cache.

Stairway to Heaven by wizardquest.
Found 12/20/04. Just one of many at Swallow Cliff FP. Dairy loved climbing those stairs.

I&M Canal-Waterfall and Foot Bridges by Nervous Nick.
Found 4/5/05. Dairy’s descending and ascending the steep cliff by herself was the high point for her at this cache.

This View Will-Cook: The Other Side by KroBro.
Found 11/6/05. Last cache after a long day of orienteering and caching. This was probably her last good day of hiking. The wet mud flats and darkness was the challenge here.
