Geocache Description:

This Used To Be My Playground, This Used To Be My Childhood...Kay

Kay Cache #3

Cache is located off Lizgard Street and should be a quick find. Please trade equal or better and do not take anything unless you leave something. There is alot of people that never trade but when they see something they want they just take it. Please be respectful of others and do not take anything unless you intend to leave something. The cache loves to have Travel Bugs left here but if you leave one please do not take a trade item unless you also leave a trade item, otherwise the cache will keep losing trade items. Cache contains log, pen/pencil, and trade items. Enjoy!

Kay grew up in this neighborhood as a child. Her parents, Christina and Bernard Gallaway, started contruction on a new family home on May 4, 1955. That day they started digging the hole for the foundation and poured the cement for it on May 6th. It was over one year later before the family moved into there home at 207 Lizgard Street. When finished it was a beautiful single story white home with a big back yard and two unique birch trees in the front yard. The biggest attraction to the home was the big white G sulpted into the cement of the front step.

_______________________

I remember living on Stornaway street for the first year of my life and then on March 5, 1956 we moved into our new home on Lizgard Street, that my father and grandfather had built for us. We fit right into this area and we fell in love with the area, home and the neighbors. Everything was great and then in 1960 a playground was built in the wooded area behind our home. We were all excited about at this prospect and spent everyday down there for hours on end. The playground had 2 sets of swings, a slide, seasaw, monkey bars and a big field at the back of the playground for us to play any other games we wanted. I loved the swings and flying high, feeling like a bird. Then a few years later a playground group was formed by the Department of Recreation, which would take all the children that signed up on field trips and to events going on in the local areas. This added great excitement to our lives and helped take some pressure off our parents. :) I remember when I had my own children and we would come to visit their grandparents they would love to play down here too while we would watch them enjoy themselves from the back patio. They all joined the playground group also and loved going on their field trips.

Now a days the playground is empty and the equipment was removed about 10 years ago. The place seems so lonely without the children running around and the playful laughter. Now the grass is moving in and taking over. Our family home is still here and my parents still reside in the home. You may see them around and if you do say hi, or stop in for a cup of tea, there is always a pot on. The only difference now is that the house has grey siding and a second set of steps almost covering the big G on the front, and sadly we lost one of the beautiful birch trees in the front yard. The cache can be found in the playground without much trouble. Hope you enjoy the area as much as I have.
