I found this place while hiking with the girls this past Fall.
The name came to me almost immediately.
The Quabbin Reservoir is a public water supply. Geocaching is
not specifically restricted here. Let's keep it that way. Please
visit this
link to view all the rules and regulations for the area. I have
tried to summarize them in the cache attribute icons above. Leave
dogs and bikes at home. Parking is right off of Rte. 9, next to the
Swift River. Nighttime access to the area is currently allowed, if
done from Rte. 9. Keep in mind that there is a State Police
barracks just a half mile from the cache, so be on your best
behavior. Stick to the trails, no bushwacking, CITO. Respect the
area, above all.
The cache you're looking for is a cylindrical Lock&Lock,
about 8 inches tall. It's camouflaged on the sides, but left clear
on the top. This is just a precaution so that in the event that
it's found, there will be no question about what's inside. To this
end, the cache will not be covered, and is not intended to be.
Please, Do Not Cover The Cache. It's already in a location
that's unlikely to be stumbled upon by anyone but a geocacher, but
if it is I want it to look as UNsuspicious as possible.
The trees here repel gps signals like it's their job. Twenty
minutes barely got me a satellite lock. So... the cache is no more
than 20 feet off the trail, and you will see it if you're standing
over it (provided it's not covered in snow). Look for the tree that
recently fell across the trail and was cut back (it's near the
"killer tree"). Follow it to where it crosses another fallen
tree.
Enjoy the adventure, and please…
