G. O. Kashir sat at his kitchen table. Strewn in front of him were
a dozen or more small trinkets: a G.I Joe figure, a small college
mascot figure, a variety of Hot Wheels style cars, other less
identifiable items. Each of them had a dog tag attached by a short
chain.
"Oh man," G. O. said. He reached out and picked up a little car.
Its dog tag dangled as he turned the car over in his hand. G. O.
picked up each of the trinkets and studied it in turn. "Oh man, oh
man."
G. O.'s sister walked in. "What's the matter?" Ima asked.
"Look at the table!" he said. "Look at all the bugs!"
"I don't see any bugs. We keep a clean house!" Ima was never the
sharpest tack in the Kashir toolbox.
"The TRAVEL bugs, dummy! I've picked them up from geocaches all
over the city. Heck, the state! I wasn't supposed to keep them!" G.
O. picked up a toy dinosaur. "See this one? I found it in a cache
over two months ago and I still have it. You know what I was
supposed to do with it?"
Ima shook her head.
"I looked it up on geocaching.com. This guy's supposed to be
moved around to visit dinosaur parks like Glenrose in Texas. At the
very least, I should have put in another cache so somebody else
could move it along."
Ima nodded.
"But I kept it. And this one. And this one. And that one. ALL of
them." G. O. pointed to the computer across the hall in the family
room. "Now I'm getting emails from the people who put the travel
bugs out. They want to know what's happening with them. And every
time I log onto geocaching.com, I get a nag note about keeping the
bugs too long. I don't know what to do!"
Ima looked sad.
Just then the computer screen came on. "You've got mail!" could
be heard faintly coming from the family room.
"Oh man!" G. O. said. "It's somebody else wanting to know about
one of these!" He went to read his new email.
"Ima! Ima! Come here! This is great!"
"What is it?" Ima asked as she walked up behind G. O. at the
computer.
"It's the ANSWER! It solves my problem completely" He pointed to
the computer screen. "Look!"
And there on the screen Ima Kashir saw the solution to G. O.'s
problem:
