Pikes Peak Area - Feb 18 2006, 1:00 O'Witz Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

WitzAbout: Archiving - this event is over - there is only one TB-item left, and I understand from the owner that it is actually still in the hands of the person who dropped it in the event. He is supposed to be moving it on shortly. :)

This was a great event! We had a lot of people show. I was really glad to have hosted it - and it makes me feel really positive about being involved in more activities to bring geocachers together.

I am glad to say that the mailing list I started after this event is doing nicely. I hope more people keep joining and contributing to the group. We've also had 3 new geocachers join the group, and it has been great to welcome them into our group! Anyone who hasn't joined the list, and is a geocacher or does geocaching South of Denver, feel free to sign up:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/COSGEO

I look forward to seeing your logs on my caches and finding caches you have hidden (anyone hidden a oval micro yet?) and seeing you and more at future events. Thanks to everyone who made the event great - and again to those who added to the Witz-ky Chaser cache that is doing so well. It even held up agaist the Denver Invasion. ;-)

Pikes Peak Geocaching
Get-together February 2006

February 18, 2006 - 1pm to 3pm
1376 E. Woodmen Rd
Colorado Springs, CO 80920

A meeting of Geocachers who are in the Pikes Peak region, have Geocached in the area, or will be around that day.

A local store has very graciously agreed to allow us to meet in their seminar space at the Colorado Springs Store at Woodemen and N. Academy.
There is room to comfortably hold 30-40 people, 50 people maximum.

Activities:
  • Travel-bug swap
  • Enjoy snacks and conversation
  • Trade or Add Geocache
  • Any announcements or topics for all attending
    • MrCOGeo - Colorado Geocoin 2006
    • C.I.T.O. April 2006
    • C.A.C.H.E.S. information
    • Sax Man's (3rd) Annual Campout
Trade or Add Geocache
There will be a new (large: 5 gallon bucket) cache at the event, partially stocked. You can log your visit there, and make trades, just like a regular cache. Or even better, add an item to fill it more!
Once the event is over, the cache will be hidden, under a new name, referring to the origins from this event.
Once hidden, you can then go out and find it, and log it again as a new cache!

Please bring an add-item for the cache and/or a snack to share.

Update 1/30/2006:
Currently have 17 Yes responses - thanks!
Doing a rough count, expecting 27 adults and 8 kids so far - that means we still have a bit of room for more!

Thanks for all the enthusiastic resposes so far!

Update 2/06/2006:
Total 25 Yes responses! (20 as RSVPs, 7 as notes)
Rough count is now: 36-38 adults, 7-10 kids (depending on how you count the littler ones :) ).
That puts us in the cozy range of about 45. I will find out what happens if we go over 50 - we might have to find a new place! :) Thanks for the super response!

Update 2/13/2006: 40 adults plus 2 maybes; 11 kids plus 3 micro-kids. Without the maybes, and counting the non-micro kids, we are a little past cozy at 51. Sounds like this will be a SRO (Standing Room Only) event. Thanks for the great response! Now stop responding! I won't turn anyone away - but at this rate, some socializing will probably have to occur in the store or outside. A big thanks to all who have checked in travelbugs! I'll be working with Pirate #1 to get the bunch (20) I have checked in, over the next day or two. Glad to see the jeeps and the Mars traveler cache coming to the event!

Update 2/17/2006:
Current attending:
Adults: 43-45
Kids: 10
Micros: 2

We are a little over the maximum for comfortable seating. I will be going a little early to set up. Depending on the space, I may set up little seating to give us the most room without getting too crowded :) My first event is SRO – wow - thanks! 8-)

Travelbugs:
52 checked in (2 show grabbed back out, non-issue)
40 Trade TBs
12 Grab TBs (coins)

With 32 geocache userIDs marked as coming, that means we have more trade TBs than IDs!
I will be tracking all the TBs – so that none get left behind!

See you at REI tomorrow!

Update 2/22/2006:
New Yahoo mailing list: COSGEO announced
The add or Trade cache, Witz-ky Chaser, is now published.
