Geocache Description:

The cache is located on the outskirts of Larnaca and forms part of the Salt Lake nature trail micro trio, along with HIDE ‘N SEEK (GCTDY3) and ARTEMIS PARALIA (GCTDY5)

Access is from the old Larnaca/Limassol road, where there are various parking opportunities within a few hundred meters of the cache. The cache is hidden beside the nature trail, which is a 4km pathway (mainly flat) skirting the salt lake, finishing in the vicinity of the airport.

You can mix ‘n match Kamares, Hide ‘n Seek and Artemis Paralia, finding them singly, in pairs or complete the 3 with a return trip of 8km which takes around 2 hours (on foot) plus hunting time.

The Salt Lake Nature Trail from Kamares to Hide ‘n Seek is a return trip of approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. The initial few hundred metres is a fairly uninspiring walk with occasional glimpses of the Salt Lake, but suddenly the views open out before you. The sight of large flocks of flamingos wading in the salt shallows during the rainy season is quite stunning. Cycling appears to be popular and dogs are welcome to bring their well behaved owners!

The beautiful 18th century aqueduct was built in 1745 by Pasha Abu Bekr in the Roman style, to carry water from a source about 6 miles south of Larnaca into the town. It surfaces in a gully along the highway to Limassol and was still in use until 1930. There are more than 20 arches still intact; remnants of others can be found to the south of the town.
