Geocache Description:

This is a fairly gentle multistage cache involving a round trip of just over 3km across an area of open parkland. The cache comprises two stages and should take around 45 minutes to complete. Terrain is generally flat but can be uneven and muddy in a few places (thus not suitable for pushchairs or very small children).

This multicache takes you through Marston Park, an area of parkland belonging to Marston House. The first stage passes close to Marston Pond, a large artificial lake home to an abundance of wildlife, including heron & oystercatcher. Deer are often visible in the parkland (take your binoculars!). After skirting the northern part of Thickthorn Wood you will pass directly south of Marston House itself. Built in 1600 by John Symes, a local magistrate and MP, the house is thought to be the work of Robert Smythson, a well-known Elizabethan surveyor. Its deceptively classical appearance however, is the result of considerable remodelling in the 18th century.

Park by the red phone box in Tytherington at N 51º 12.360 W 002º 19.930 and walk northwest for approximately 100m to the footpath sign at N 51º 12.405 W 002º 19.989 (by the big green shed). Follow the footpath to N 51º 12.179 W 002º 21.080 where you will find a dedication to a man who shares his name with a famous artist. There is a date on the sign containing 6 digits. Number the digits 1 to 6 and solve the following equation for the cache’s location (a 1 litre camo lock & lock box).

N 51º 12. (6) (3-1) 7
W 002º (1+3) 0. (6) (2+3)1

Although the path is usually muggle-free please remember to hide the cache well before you leave. This is our first cache so let us know how you get on…
