If there can be 101 caches named for 101 Dalmatians, why not 1000 caches named for David’s favorite salad dressing, Thousand Island? Imagine 1000 little green micros like the bits of sweet pickle in a serving of Thousand Island dressing. Each cache is named after an island and corresponds to the island in some way.
Cancún is another resort island we’ve never visited. The name means “Serpent’s Nest”. Cancún is divided into two parts: A narrow 14-mile-long island section (Cancún Island) and a mainland downtown commercial section (Cancún City), connected to the island by two bridges. In the early 1950s Cancún was an almost unpopulated and undeveloped island just off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula. An international airport was built along with a causeway to link Cancún to the mainland. The area has been developed over the past thirty years to become a city of approximately half a million residents, covering the former island and the nearby mainland.
Our cache is a 2-stage multi. In keeping with our theme, the first stage is a jalapeño pepper with the coordinates to the second stage. We couldn’t put the cache in Mexico due to maintenance issues so we put it as close as possible while keeping it in Winston-Salem. You’ll see what we mean when you get there. The path to the final coordinates has lots of briars. It also takes you into a ravine with steep sides and tall trees on the high ground making satellite reception difficult. The final stage is not in the ravine. If you get to the washing machine, you're in the wrong place. Go north. If you're down in the ravine, be careful not to step in a deep hole. If you're having trouble finding the final, add .009 to the final latitude and subtract .002 from the final longitude.
The coordinates were changed Feb. 26, 2005. Any offsets posted before then will not work anymore.
