in our disclaimer.
This is not a tough cache - it is close to the road but because of some loose rocks, brush, PRICKLY PEAR, etc. this cache may be a little tough.
The coordinates were averaged over a 15 minute period and is accurate to within 23 feet.
WATCH FOR RATTLESNAKES if you are finding this in the summer. I have never seen one here but they are around.
* NOTE - There has been a skunk spotted pretty close to this cache so beware.
This is the site at which Sacajawea recognized she was in the area that her tribe, the Shoshones, spent time hunting and fishing in the summer.
August 8, 1805 Lewis writes in his journal:
"the Indian woman recognized the point of a high plain to our right which she informed us was not very distant from the summer retreat of her nation on a river beyond the mountains which runs to the west. this hill she says her nation calls the beaver's head from a conceived resemblance of it's figure to the head of that animal. she assures us that we shall either find her people on this river or on the river immediately west of it's source..."
There is far more history here than just the Lewis and Clark expedition and I encourage you to spend some time looking around the Ruby and Beaverhead Valleys.
If you get a chance, stop at the Library in Twin Bridges and look for the book "Pioneer Trails & Trials" - there is a section in the book discussing a lot of the happenings around the area of this cache over the last 120 years.
