Geocache Description:

Weekend Campout, AGA Monthly Meeting and Fish Fry

NOTE: The weather forecast tells me that there is little chance of getting any fishing done Friday night - supposed to be low-40s and raining, and colder and still raining off-and-on Saturday, so I am not gonna drag the boat up there for this event.

So, no fishing Friday night or boat caching Saturday - everything else, the meeting room will be open all day, the hikes, meeting and the fish fry are all still on.

Hope to see you there!
Ed

Welcome everyone to Lake Guntersville and Guntersville State Park!

This is one of Alabama's most beautiful parks and has something to offer everyone year-round.

Camping in Alabama in February, the weather can be a bit unpredictable, and the state park's facilities are undergoing major repairs, so we have moved the actual event five miles down the lake to a lovely private resort and campground.

Call ahead for overnight rental reservations!

Cabins and RV Camping only - No Tents

The place:
Little Mountain Marina Camping Resort
1001 Murphy Hill Road
Langston, Alabama 35755
256-582-8211 - 24 Hours

Gate coordinates: N34° 27.560 W086° 11.236

Contact - Marge

NOTE: you will have to bring your own bed linens and towels to the marina cabins versus the fact that the State Park provides linens for their cabins...but for the rental cost savings you can buy them and still be ahead!

The cabins at the marina have two bedrooms and each has a queen size bed and each cabin has a kitchen complete with stove, microwave and coffee maker.

Cabins, RV and tent camping is available at the State park if you would rather stay there. Contact Guntersville State Park for reservations. 256-571-5444

This event will be a bit different!

Attendees will begin arriving Friday evening.

I will bring my pontoon boat and anchor out in the lake and crappie fish during the night. Join me - we'll hang some lanterns over the side and cane-pole or tight-line fish, so there will be room for up to 10 fishermen.

Kids are welcome; the 25' boat has 4' walls, so they can run about and be safe, and we'll make a pallet for them to sleep on if they get tired.

If you are a non-fisher-person or don't own gear, this is a perfect opportunity to have fun catching some of the best-tasting fish available!

Everyone over 16 will need a current Alabama fishing license, available at any Wal-Mart or sporting goods store.

DRESS WARM - It's COLD out on the lake in the best of weather!

Saturday morning around 9 a.m. we'll open the meeting room and have it open all day - folks can come and go as they please, visit and socialize!

Saturday at 10 a.m. Cyrusel will lead a family-friendly group hike down Guntersville State Park trails.

This is approximately a five-mile round-trip along the developed trails by the lake - she and her children (four and eight, I think) have done it numerous times, know the trails, and know that hiking with children isn't a power-walk but a leisurely, scenic and exciting stroll.

She reports that there is a lot of wild game, including Bald Eagles and deer, that are likely to be seen.

Cyrusel is a regular on these trails and extends an offer to geocachers from near and far - bring a geocache to hide along the trails! Kids in the group can get the FTF if they want, and she will volunteer to be the local maintainer to care for your cache!

Saturday at 1 p.m. the Coosa Valley Cachers will be holding their February Eat & Greet (GCTA7X) at Ryan's Steakhouse in Ft. Payne, Alabama, just 25 miles away - you may want to drop in and visit, especially if you don't love fried fish and fixins!

Saturday at 3 p.m. let's all gather together for a meeting at the listed coords, after which we'll have an old-fashioned campfire fish fry - an iron kettle for frying fish, green tomatoes and hush puppies; corn, baked potatoes and sweet onions cooked in the coals!

Bring what you want cooked if you don't care for that menu and I will cook it for you or make room on the grill for you to cook!

If a fish-fry doesn't suit you there is a restaraunt onsite.

After dinner we'll stoke up a bonfire - bring hot dogs, smore makins or marshmallows and a chair!

Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Veranid will lead a hike of some of the tougher terrain. Children are welcome, his will be along, but it's certainly not the easy walk in the park!

See y'all there!
